Submitted that the two shell recovered near
Castle Peak have been subjected to visual examination
and are found to be "blind" rounds of filled and fuzed
shell, of Japanese origin of 4.7 inch type fuzed with a
direct action fuze.
Both shell have been fired from a gun, and
are in a dangerous state to handle, safety pins are withdrawn and missing and in one case the needle plate
of fuze is exposed.
Filling is apparently a form of High Explosive,
but it would be necessary to empty them to verify this
fact definitely.
